Addiction

Addiction is often viewed as being limited to alcoholism or drug addiction. However, addiction can be associated with a variety of other compulsive behaviors. These behaviors include compulsive eating, gambling, sex, pornography, shopping and video games. These behaviors become addictions when the individual struggles to stop these compulsive behavior and cannot or when these behaviors begin to interfere with daily life. When the individual cannot stop these behaviors despite understanding the consequences, and despite their desire to stop, then it is becoming an addiction. These individuals know that it is harming them, or their families and loved ones, yet their impulses will not allow them to stop this behavior.
